About DanceClub

Our Story

The first DanceClub workshop (Rumba) took place in December 2011, and we’ve been dancing and teaching since. We work to spread the word of “Dance for Fun, Fitness and Well-being”.

Since that modest start in 2011, we’ve successfully entered dancers aged 4 – 82 in 326 medal and other dance awards, and this year we’ve started to enter selected dancers in various local and national dance competitions.

All we teachers are IDTA qualified and have full DBS Enhanced Disclosure, and our helpers have many years’ experience of dancing and helping others reach their potential.

Qualified and experienced

All our teachers have successfully undertaken training in the International Dance Teacher’s Association’s (IDTA) syllabus, and we hold full teaching qualifications in Ballroom, Latin American, Classical Sequence, Freestyle, and Argentine Tango styles of dance.

Safety in mind

For your peace of mind all our teachers are holders of current full enchanced DBS (disclosure certification).

Something for everyone

We provide classes and workshops for dancers of all abilities, from absolute beginner to National competitor, and for adult dancers aged 16 and up.

Fitness the fun way

When dancing with us, you’ll learn real ‘strictly style’ dance steps, and also improve:

  • Balance
  • Co-ordination
  • Cognitive Agility
  • Muscle & Core Tone

Mark Harbor

Principle of DanceClub

Mark’s been dancing Ballroom and Latin American on and off since the late 1970s (long before Strictly). Mark Antony’s School of Dance was incorporated into the DanceClub franchise when he gained full membership of the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA). He is qualified in Ballroom, Latin American, Argentine Tango, Classical Sequence, and Freestyle.

Since 1983, when he gained his ISTD Supreme Award in Latin American Dancing, Mark has learned Modern Jive, Argentine Tango, and Classical and Modern Sequence Dancing; he has also explored the worlds of Freestyle, Street and Ballet dancing.

His passion for dancing is evident in his teaching, as is his desire to move away from learning routines by rote. It’s his belief that to be able to dance with anyone, leaders should know how to lead and followers how to follow rather than relying on a partner knowing the routine; these skills are not always addressed in dance schools.

Cathy Smith

Cathy’s dad is an IDTA Qualified teacher and she spent many years dancing and assisting him. She now brings her Ballroom, Latin American and Freestyle skills to DanceClub. Cathy is an IDTA Qualified Ballroom and Latin American, and Freestyle Dance teacher

Charlotte Barnard

Charlotte is an IDTA Qualified Freestyle Dance teacher, and is currently studying toward her Ballroom and Latin American qualifications. Charlotte’s expeience includes competetive dancing at National and Local levels along with performance work.
