Adult group classes

Our First Steps course is designed for the novice Ballroom Dancer.

We dance on Tuesday evenings, 7:15 – 8:30pm at the Didcot Baptist Church (OX11 0BS). The programme runs during school term times.

Our next full programme starts on Tuesday, 23rd April. This has been a very popular class, so pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

The cost is £70 per dancer for the full programme, or £6.50 per session. There is a discounted rate if you do the Stepping Out programme at the same time.

Do note that First Steps is designed as a 12-week course rather than a series of drop-in classes. It is strongly recommended that you complete the whole programme.

The programme teaches basic rhythms and routines for the popular Ballroom and Latin American dances, Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Jive, Cha Cha Chá, and Rumba.

We have practice / warm-up dancing from 7:05pm and the class runs from 7:15 – 8:30pm and includes a further opportunity to practice.

Our Stepping Out course is designed for dancers who have some experience at beginner level.

We dance on Tuesday evenings, 8:15 – 9:30pm at the Didcot Baptist Church (OX11 0BS). The programme runs during school term times.

The cost is £70 per dancer for the full programme, or £6.50 per session. There is a discounted rate if you do the First Steps programme at the same time.

The programme builds on the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Jive, Cha Cha Chá, and Rumba routines taught in the First Steps programme. You can do both courses simultaneously as they’re designed to compliment each other; a great option if you’re returning to Ballroom Dancing after an extended break.

There is a practice / warm-up dancing from 8:15pm and the class runs from 8:30 – 9:30pm.

The Let’s Dance classes are designed for the more confident Ballroom Dancer.

We dance on Thursday evenings, 8:15 – 9:45pm at the Didcot Leisure Centre (OX11 8AY) throughout the year.

Our next full ‘stint’ starts on Thursday, 9th May 2019 looking at  Rumba, Quickstep, and Jive. Our next social Chance-to-Dance on Thursday 25th April 2019.

The cost is £7.50 per person.

The classes follow a more ‘drop-in’ style during which we teach interesting patterns that can be added in part or in whole to your existing dance routines. The slightly more complicated and technically demanding patterns are intended to develop our dancers’ skills and flexibility.

We run the classes throughout the year in 8-week ‘stints’: 6- weeks of classes, 1-week social evening, and 1-week rest. The evening’s format is:

8:15 – 8:30pm practice / warm-up dancing,

8:30 – 9:15 teaching,

9:15 – 9:45pm practice dancing.

We’ve developed a Sequence Dance programme for absolute beginners.

We dance on most Monday Evenings 8:00 – 9:00pm at  the Abingdon Dance Studios (OX14 2HF) throughout the year.

The cost is £13 per couple.

A chance to learn popular Modern and Classical Sequence Dancing from the absolute beginning. You won’t need any ballroom or sequence dance experience. We have limited space for solo dancers, so do contact us before popping along.

Our short Tango Fundamentals course and workshop is designed for Tango novices and dancers who’d like to develop their technique.

Our next short course starts on Tuesday, 30th July 2019 at 7:30pm in the Didcot Baptist Church (OX11 0BS). The course runs on 30th July, 6th August, and 13th August, The cost is £55 per dancer for the whole course, or £20 per session. We also have plans for another course in December 2019

This is a course we have developed to teach our underpinning principles of this enigmatic dance. We teach the ‘de Salon’ style to set you up for other classes, Practica, or Milonga.

Additionally, we have developed a series of Taster Sessions, or Fundamental Workshops that can be tailored to suit your requirements.

What some of our learners have said

I’ve been learning Ballroom and Latin with Mark for many years now.

He’s a very thorough teacher but with a relaxed style and a real care that you have fun as well as learn.

He’s excellent at putting people at their ease, judging their level and style and pitching classes right.

Georgina C.

Thank you so much for Friday night. We had a brilliant time – I saw one if the girls mums today and all three of her girls commented on how great it was and they tried to teach her 🙂👍 hope you had a great evening of dancing. Many thanks again.

Rachel and all Upton and Blewbury guides

Mark choreographed and taught me and my husband our first dance. My husband was relatively new to dancing, but with Mark’s guidance we managed to not only surprise everyone, and give a near perfect performance, but also to enjoy both the classes and the performance!!

We definitely recommend Mark!

Have a question? See if we have answered it here.

I've never danced before, can I learn?

That’s what we’re here for, to help people learn to dance…two left feet are no problem as you only need one foot at a time.

Do I need to have a partner to come to your classes?

It’s easier if you have a partner but, we can sometimes pair up solo dancers…or the teachers will dance with you.

My child would like to learn, do you only teach adults?

Unfortunately, we are not running classes for the younger dancer at the moment.

What clothing should I wear?

Comfortable clothes are the order of the day. We want you to be comfortable, that way dancing is more fun.

Do I need special shoes?

Shoes are important: they should be comfortable, support your ankle, and the soles shouldn’t grip the floor too much. Leather soles, or hard resin plastic are normally quite good. Of course, if you want to get serious, you can buy ‘proper’ dance shoes, and we’re happy to advise on these.

Can I have private one-to-one lessons?

Yes, we have some daytime and weekend times available to lessons catering for up to 4 people. These are ideal for preparing a Wedding First Dance, preparing for exams, or just getting a head-start.
